Scientist/Senior Scientist, Biology

Founded in 2016, Foghorn Therapeutics discovers and develops novel drugs to treat cancer and other serious medical disorders. The company seeks to discover novel therapeutics that target chromatin remodeling complexes. Foghorn uses a proprietary platform based on revolutionary advances in mechanistic understanding of disease.

Position Description:

Foghorn Therapeutics is seeking a talented biologist to join our team. This individual will work to progress drug discovery programs with a multidisciplinary team of computational, structural biology and chemistry experts. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving cellular, molecular and in vivo biology on discovery programs; developing project team research plans, assay development, execution and analysis to progress from therapeutic concept to full development. An important part of the role will be effective communication of scientific results both internally and externally at scientific meetings and conferences.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work collaboratively with computational, structural and chemistry colleagues to drive early target identification and validation, serving as a point of accountability for new target strategy, timelines, and progress.
  • Design and execute research plans for drug discovery projects including building assay strategies for drug discovery screening funnels toward to lead ID and development candidates.
  • Develop in vitro and cell-based assays, perform in vitro and in vivo target validation experiments in our internal labs and in collaboration with our external research CRO partners.
  • Lead directly from bench, develop and manage outsourced FTEs and projects at appropriate CROs; ensure data quality, documentation, and integration with internal data.
  • Act as a lead expert in the biology of each target with a comprehensive understanding of the molecular, genetic, cellular and in vivo mechanisms in the context of human disease.
  • Recognize the current state of care and competition in the field to guide project selection, project strategy, and development.
  • Communicate scientific results among the scientific team, to senior management, and at scientific meetings/conferences.

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in biology with a strong background in oncology demonstrated with a strong publication record. Experience in cancer genetics, epigenomic research, chromatin biology, and/or transcriptional regulation highly desired.
  • Preferred 3+ years of experience in biotech and/or pharmaceutical industry with oncology experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence in experimental design, execution, analysis, interpretation, and data presentation. Technical skills in in vitro assays, cell-based assays, protein and gene expression analysis.
  • Extensive experience in cell biology, cell culture techniques and a solid understanding of in vivo disease models and pharmacology. Solid understanding of the use of molecular biomarkers and genomic technologies, such as large-scale functional genomic screens and next-generation sequencing technologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to work across functions and engage external stakeholders. Commitment to collaborative team work is a must.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and drive projects that affect critical timelines.
