Founded in 2016, Foghorn Therapeutics discovers and develops novel drugs to treat cancer and other serious medical disorders. The company seeks to discover novel therapeutics that target chromatin remodeling complexes. Foghorn uses a proprietary platform based on revolutionary advances in mechanistic understanding of disease. 

Position Description:

We are seeking a strong leader for our small molecule drug discovery programs. This individual will work closely with the chemistry, drug discovery, and other functions to drive programs from target conception to IND filing and beyond. The successful candidate will mentor and supervise early-career scientists. He/she will be an important member in the biology group leadership team to build out the scientific and operation strategy of the biological research.  

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide team leadership and project management to guide the execution of scientific team and project initiatives
  • Guide research strategy and experimentation in both early and late research programs
  • Advance research programs from early target ID and validation to IND enabling studies
  • Coordinate project team activities and efficiently drive execution of Foghorn’s drug discovery programs and company goals
  • Lead interactions with key opinion leaders and the external research community
  • Represent the company at external scientific meetings
  • Supervise and mentor career development of scientists in the biology team

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in Biology, Immunology, Translational Science, Oncology, or related field
  • More than 10 years of industry experience in small molecule target identification and drug discovery
  • Experience leading teams at various stages of small molecule drug discovery
  • Research experience in transcription and chromatin biology is a plus
  • leadership skills and a desire to mentor early-career scientists
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across functions
  • Extensive experience in managing CROs is highly desired
  • Hands-on mentality and the ability to focus on details in moving projects forward
  • Ability to think critically and creatively in a fast-paced research environment
  • Willingness to work in an innovative and collaborative environment pursuing high risk-high reward science
  • Adaptability, commitment to scientific excellence, and team member mentality is a must
