TITLE:                  Senior/Principle Scientist, Cell Biology

The company seeks to discover novel therapeutics that target chromatin remodeling complexes. Foghorn uses a proprietary platform based on revolutionary advances in mechanistic understanding of disease.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This is a biology lead position in small molecule drug discovery programs. This individual will work closely with the chemistry lead and other functions to develop an assay funnel enabling hit progression to lead and beyond. He/she is expected to also develop PK/PD and proof-of-concept in vivo efficacy models. The successful candidate will provide biology insights on the target and therapeutic hypothesis to guide drug discovery efforts and translation into the clinic. This individual is expected to spend more than 50% of time on bench work. As part of the biology team, the successful candidate also has an opportunity to contribute broadly in advancing validated targets to the new drug discovery pipeline. The title will be commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and optimize new cell-based assays to support SAR.
  • Identify PD biomarkers for targets.
  • Investigate novel biology of the target.
  • Utilize various external resources to design and validate in vivo models.
  • Manage work at CRO sites.
  • Contribute to new target validation.
  • Present at team meetings.
  •  

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in biology with a strong publication record.
  • More than 5 years of industry experience preferably in oncology or immunology.
  • Prior experience at various stages of small molecule drug discovery is highly desirable.
  • A proven ability to work independently, solve problems and initiate new ideas.
  • Research experience in transcription and chromatin biology a plus but not required.
  • Strong communication skill and ability to work effectively across functions.
  • A “hands on” mentality in moving projects forward.
  • A desire to work in an innovative and collaborative environment pursuing high risk-high reward science.
