Reports to:       VP of Biology

Foghorn Therapeutics is an exciting new company whose focus is to discover and develop new breakthrough therapies based on its proprietary gene traffic control platform (GTC). Powered by our unique understanding of chromatin remodeling biology, we are discovering transformational new medicine for the treatment of cancers and other major diseases with unmet medical needs.

POSITION SUMMARY

This role will be charged to harness the power of Foghorn’s GTC drug discovery platform capabilities and to establish and progress a drug discovery pipeline in immune-oncology.  In 2018, one key objective is to establish a research strategy and discovery engine in the immune-oncology area. The candidate is expected to establish close partnerships with colleagues from multiple disciplines to translate business needs into state-of-the-art solutions. As Director of immunology, you will develop new medicines based on our GTC platform, set research strategy and lead the group. As an early hire, you’ll be influential in creating Foghorn’s culture to create a new way to think and to develop novel medicine for patients.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead an immunology focused research team. A near-term focus is to establish a discovery engine in immune-oncology area.
  • Provide strategic and technical leadership for the immunology group. Establish and advance drug discovery programs based on Foghorn’s proprietary GTC platform.
  • Establish and nurture a broad network of external stakeholders, including CROs, academic consultants, consultants, etc.).
  • Be a leader in the biology group and contribute to research strategy, early research portfolio management, pipeline building, talent development and recruitment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD or MD/PhD with proven scientific experience in immunology.
  • A strong publication record in top-tier, peer-reviewed journals in the areas of inflammation, autoimmunity, immuno-oncology and/or drug discovery
  • Strong experience in drug discovery and development with minimum 7-10 years of experience in biopharmaceutical setting. Experience in oncology drug discovery is a plus.
  • Demonstrated track record of being a team player and a strong leader, hands-on experience in leading teams of science towards delivery of novel therapeutics from idea to early pre-clinical development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality, attention to detail, critical and creative thinking.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders as well as external partners and collaborators; good presentation skills.
  • A background in human genetics, rare or orphan disorders, autoimmune diseases in a plus but not required.
